Types of Fire Extinguishers

Class A:
Ordinary combustibles, such as wood, cloth, and paper
Class B:
Flammable liquids, such as gasoline, oil, and solvents
Class C:
Electrical equipment, such as wiring, fuse boxes, and appliances
Class D:
Combustible metals, such as magnesium
ABC Extinguishers:
ABC extinguishers utilize a dry chemical agent (siliconized monoammonium phosphate) that suppresses Class A, B and C fires. They can be used to extinguish common combustible, flammable liquid and live electrical equipment fires. ABC extinguishers are great for home, office, flammable liquid storage, boiler room, chemical facility and warehouse applications.
BC Extinguishers:
BC extinguishers utilize an electrically non-conductive dry chemical (siliconized sodium bicarbonate) that suppresses Class B and C fires. They are very effective in fighting fires caused by flammable liquids and live electrical equipment. They are great for use in kitchens, garages, light manufacturing plants, warehouses, and areas where computers, motors, wiring, or appliances are present.
Class D Extinguishers:
Class D extinguishers contain a sodium chloride based dry chemical extinguishing agent. Heat from the fire coats the metal, excluding air and dissipating the heat from the burning metal, such as magnesium, sodium, potassium, sodium potassium alloys, uranium and powdered aluminum. They are specifically for use in areas where combustible metals are present.
Class K Extinguishers:
Class K Extinguishers contain a potassium-based liquid, which is specifically designed for grease fires common in kitchens. Special design does not splash grease fires, but cools and smothers them instead. These extinguishers are for exclusive use in areas where "combustible cooking media" is present.
Foam Extinguishers:
Foam fire extinguishers are ideal for any hazard or application where flammable Class B liquids are being handled or stored. They not only extinguish flammable liquid fires, but also suppress vapors given off to avoid potential reignition. The wetting and cooling characteristics of a foam solution make them effective on Class A common combustible fires as well.
Halotron 1 Extinguishers:
Halotron 1 fire extinguishers are an environmentally acceptable Halon-1211 alternative, designed to meet any special hazard need where Halon 1211 was traditionally used. Offers the best discharge range for outdoor applications and is United States Coast Guard (USCG) approved. They are ideal for used is office computer areas, data storage, telecommunications and high tech clean rooms.
FE-36 Extinguishers:
FE-36 Clean Guard fire extinguishers are designed to protect commercial facilities traditionally protected by Halon 1211. Typically, these are areas with sensitive or irreplaceable equipment that could be damaged or destroyed by water, foam, dry chemicals or CO2. Typical applications include computer centers, data/document storage areas, communications facilities, control rooms, electronics manufacturing, museums, art galleries and laboratories.
Water Mist Extinguishers:
Water Mist extinguishers are designed to provide customers with an environmentally friendly clean agent. The extinguishant is simply distilled water and therefore is non-toxic and leaves no residue. It is effective on Class A common combustible fires and Class C live electrical equipment fires. They are very useful for computer rooms, hospitals, electronic equipment manufacturing plants, clean rooms and hyperbaric chambers.
Water Extinguishers:
Water Fire extinguishers utilize a cooling and soaking stream that is very effective on Class A fires. They are perfect for home or office use for paper, cloth, wood, trash and other common combustible fires.
Purple K Extinguishers:
Purple K fire extinguishers contain a specially fluidized and siliconized potassium bicarbonate dry chemical, which is particularly effective on high-hazard Class B and Class C fires. They are the preferred fire-fighting agent of the oil, gas, chemical and utilities industries.
Carbon Dioxide Extinguishers:
CO2 is discharged as a white cloud that smothers the fire by eliminating its oxygen. It is a clean, non-contaminating, odorless gas and is safe for use on clothing, equipment, valuable documents or food. CO2 extinguishers are particularly useful for computer rooms, flammable liquid storage areas and hospital operating room fires.
